Komodo yacht charter in March
March in Komodo: the rains ease, dragons hatch and the season starts to turn
Quick answer
Is March a good time for a yacht charter in Komodo?
March is a good, transitional month for a Komodo charter. Rain becomes less frequent as the month goes on, seas start to settle and the hills are still green. Some weather risk remains, especially early in the month. Late March is the better half, with fewer boats than in the dry season and attractive shoulder season availability.

Why go in March
What March does best in Komodo
- Hatching season begins, with young dragons emerging from nests around March to April
- Green hills on Padar with fewer showers than January and February
- A last strong stretch for southern manta sites in calm weather
- Quiet anchorages before the dry season boats arrive
- Warm water for snorkelling at Siaba Besar and Pink Beach
Honest caveats
What to plan around
- Early March can still bring rain squalls and short sailing pauses
- Nyepi closes Bali airport for 24 hours on 9 March 2027, which affects Bali connections
- Eid al Fitr, expected around 10 March 2027, makes domestic flights busy and expensive
- Visibility is improving but not yet at its best
Wildlife
Young dragons hatch and climb straight into the trees to avoid adults, so hatchling sightings are rare but possible with rangers. Turtles and reef sharks are common at Siaba Besar and Batu Bolong.
Demand and booking
Low to moderate. Two to three months' notice is usually enough, except around Easter and the Eid holiday, when domestic flights fill up.

FAQ
Komodo in March: your questions
Is late March better than early March in Komodo?
Usually, yes. The northwest monsoon weakens through March, so the second half typically brings fewer squalls, calmer crossings and clearer water. Early March can still feel like the rainy season. If your dates are flexible, aim for the last ten days of the month for the best balance of weather and quiet anchorages.
Can you see baby Komodo dragons in March?
Possibly, but it is never guaranteed. Eggs laid in August and September hatch roughly seven to eight months later, so March and April are hatching time. Hatchlings live in trees for their first years to avoid adult dragons, and rangers on Rinca and Komodo know where to look.
How does Nyepi affect a Komodo trip in March 2027?
On 9 March 2027, Bali observes Nyepi and its airport closes for 24 hours. There are no flights between Bali and Labuan Bajo that day, and hotels in Bali ask guests to stay inside. Plan to arrive in Labuan Bajo before or after, or route your flights via Jakarta.
