FAQ
Komodo in August: your questions
Is August too windy for a Komodo charter?
Not usually. August is breezy, with the southeast trades at their strongest, but much of the central and northern park is sheltered and mornings are often calm. Crews choose anchorages and timing to avoid the windiest stretches. Guests prone to seasickness should mention it, so the route favours shorter, protected passages.
Can you see Komodo dragons nesting in August?
You may see signs of it. Females start digging nest chambers in August and September and guard them for weeks. Rangers sometimes point out nest areas from a safe distance, but they are protected. Mating behaviour also continues, so dragons are generally more active than in the hottest months.
Do I need to book a Komodo charter a year ahead for August?
For the most sought after larger yachts and specific dates, six to twelve months is realistic. Smaller and mid size yachts may still be available closer to the date, but choice narrows quickly. The park's daily visitor cap is another reason to secure your dates early.
