Komodo in February: wet season lulls, sailing pauses and empty anchorages
Quick answer
Is February a good time for a yacht charter in Komodo?
February is a fair month for Komodo at best. Rain and gusty northwest winds continue, and the harbour master paused sailings to Komodo and Padar in February 2026 when high waves were forecast. Between fronts, days can be bright and anchorages almost empty. It suits flexible travellers who value privacy over guaranteed conditions.

Why go in February
What February does best in Komodo
- Almost private anchorages at Kanawa, Kalong and Gili Lawa
- Lush green landscapes on Padar, Rinca and the Flores coast
- Good manta chances in plankton rich water
- Warm water around 28 to 30°C for long snorkels
- Bright breaks between showers for dramatic photography
Honest caveats
What to plan around
- Sailing to Komodo and Padar was suspended from 23 to 25 February 2026 because of high waves, which shows how fronts can stop trips
- Rain can wash out a planned hike or sunrise
- Fewer larger yachts are available locally
- Chinese New Year week can lift flight prices into Labuan Bajo
Wildlife
Dragon eggs laid last August and September are still incubating in nests on Komodo and Rinca, and hatchlings usually emerge around March to April. Mantas remain a highlight of the wet season.
Demand and booking
One of the lowest demand months. Late bookings are realistic, but check which yachts are actually in Labuan Bajo, as many larger ones are in Raja Ampat.
Fleet in February
Most of the larger yachts are in Raja Ampat during February, so Komodo options are mainly yachts permanently based in Labuan Bajo.
Holidays and events
Chinese New Year is 6 February 2027 (17 February in 2026). Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, which mostly affects domestic travel rather than charters.

FAQ
Komodo in February: your questions
Should I choose Raja Ampat instead of Komodo in February?
For most travellers, yes. February is peak season in Raja Ampat, with calmer seas and the larger fleet based there. Komodo in February is quieter and better value but less predictable. Choose Komodo only if your dates are fixed, you are already in Bali, or you want an empty, green landscape.
How much rain falls in Komodo in February?
February is still firmly in the rainy season, typically with rain on around half the days. Showers often come as heavy afternoon or night downpours rather than all day rain, so mornings can be clear. Labuan Bajo is drier than much of Indonesia, but this is not its dry season.
Does Ramadan affect a Komodo charter in February 2027?
Very little. Ramadan is expected to start around 8 February 2027. Crews and services in Labuan Bajo operate normally, and Flores is a largely Catholic island. The bigger effect comes around Eid al Fitr in March, when domestic flights across Indonesia become busy and more expensive.
