Wifi and Starlink on Indonesian Yacht Charters

Updated 29 October 2026 · Navélia Yacht Charters Indonesia

Short answer

Many private yachts in Indonesia now have Starlink satellite internet, which gives usable wifi for messages, email and video calls even at remote anchorages. Coverage and speeds vary by yacht, so confirm it for the specific boat before you book. Without Starlink, mobile data works near Labuan Bajo and some islands in Komodo, but signal is patchy in Raja Ampat and very limited in the Spice Islands.

What connection to expect by region

Speeds on satellite internet depend on the number of devices connected and the weather. Messaging and email are usually smooth; large uploads and streaming can be slower when the whole group is online at once.

How to make sure your yacht has it

Equipment changes quickly as owners upgrade, so we confirm internet on the exact yacht when we send your quote. If you need to work during the charter, tell us what you need, for example daily video calls, so we can shortlist the right boats.

  • Ask whether Starlink is installed and whether it runs all day or on a schedule
  • Check if there is any data limit or extra charge
  • Ask where on board the signal is strongest
  • Buy a local SIM or eSIM as a backup near Labuan Bajo or Sorong

Working from a yacht

Some guests run a few calls each morning and spend the rest of the day snorkelling. It works best with a private charter, because the captain can plan a long stop at anchor at the time of your meeting. Bring a power bank and keep a waterproof bag for laptops on the tender. Remember that satellite internet can drop briefly in heavy rain or when the yacht is moving between islands.

For a remote work trip, Komodo is the easier region: it departs Labuan Bajo about 1 hour 15 minutes from Bali, and mobile signal close to town is a useful backup. In Raja Ampat, plan your calls around Starlink and keep an offline copy of anything important.

Or switch off completely

Many clients choose to disconnect. A 5 night Komodo trip or a 7 night Raja Ampat route is a rare chance to be properly offline, and the crew can keep a satellite line available only for emergencies. Komodo is best from April to November and Raja Ampat from October to April.

A middle path works well for many families: one agreed check in time each day, and phones away for the rest. The crew can also keep you informed of anything urgent from the office through the captain.
