Private Yacht Charter vs Cabin Charter in Indonesia

Updated 29 October 2026 · Navélia Yacht Charters Indonesia

Short answer

A private charter means you book the entire yacht for your group, from US$1,900 per night in Komodo, and choose your own route and pace. A cabin charter means you book one cabin on a yacht shared with other guests on a set itinerary, which suits solo travellers and couples on a smaller budget. If you have four or more guests, a private yacht is often similar in cost per person and far more flexible.

When a private charter makes more sense

Private charters are priced per night for the whole boat, so the per person cost drops as your group grows. A group of 8 on Splendour pays about US$311 each per night at US$2,490, and 12 guests on Teman at US$4,250 pay about US$354 each. At those numbers, a group gets a whole crew, a private chef and complete control of the day.

  • You travel as a family with children
  • You want to choose when to dive, snorkel, hike or rest
  • You are celebrating a honeymoon, birthday or proposal
  • You need specific dates, such as school holidays

When a cabin charter makes more sense

If you are one or two people and happy to share the boat, a cabin charter gives you the same islands at a fraction of the cost of booking a whole yacht. You follow a set route with other guests, which many solo travellers enjoy. Cabin charters are offered on select yachts and dates, so availability is narrower.

Cabin charters can also be a good way to test the experience before booking a whole yacht for your family on a later trip. Expect shared dining, a shared schedule and fixed dive or snorkel times.

Costs that apply to both

Whichever you choose, crew, meals and fuel for the standard route are included. Komodo park fees of roughly US$50 to 120 per guest for a 3 to 4 night trip, or the Raja Ampat entry permit of about US$120 per guest, are extra, as are diving, alcohol and the crew gratuity. Payment terms depend on the yacht, usually 50% to confirm and 50% 60 days before the charter.

How to decide quickly

  • One or two travellers on a budget: cabin charter
  • Two travellers who want privacy or a celebration: a small classic phinisi from US$1,900 or Alexa at US$6,500
  • Four to eight friends: a private yacht such as Splendour at US$2,490
  • Families and groups of 10 or more: a private yacht with enough cabins, such as Raffles at US$3,800 or Teman at US$4,250
