Do You Need a Labuan Bajo Hotel Before Your Yacht Charter?

Updated 29 October 2026 · Navélia Yacht Charters Indonesia

Short answer

You only need a hotel in Labuan Bajo if your flight lands too late to board on the day your charter starts, or if you want a buffer before an expensive trip. Flights from Bali take about 1 hour 15 minutes, so many guests fly in the same morning and board around midday. If you are arriving from outside Indonesia, staying one night in Bali or Labuan Bajo first is the safer plan.

When a night in Labuan Bajo makes sense

  • Your international flight lands in Bali in the afternoon or evening
  • You are travelling with children or older guests and want an easy start
  • You plan an early sunrise departure for Padar on day one
  • Your group arrives on different flights and you want to board together
  • You want to see the town, the sunset over the harbour and the seafood market

Where to stay in Labuan Bajo

Labuan Bajo is small, and almost everything is within a short drive of the airport and harbour. The hillside above town has resorts with wide sunset views over the islands, while the waterfront is closer to restaurants and the harbour. Either works for a single night. Our Labuan Bajo team can suggest a hotel that matches your yacht's boarding point and arrange a transfer.

If you only have one night, prioritise an easy airport transfer and a good night's sleep over facilities you will not have time to use. Ask for an early breakfast if you are boarding in the morning, and keep your luggage packed so the transfer to the harbour is quick.

Sample arrival plans

PlanHow it works
Same dayMorning flight from Bali, board around midday, first anchorage by sunset
Night before in Labuan BajoAfternoon flight, hotel night, board after breakfast
Night before in BaliInternational arrival, rest, morning flight to Labuan Bajo the next day
Night afterDisembark, one hotel night, fly home the following day

After the charter

Most charters end in the morning in Labuan Bajo. If your flight home leaves Bali that evening, the connection is usually workable, but a night in Bali after the trip removes the stress. Remember that your charter fee already includes crew, meals and fuel for the standard route; hotels and flights are booked separately. Three nights is the minimum we recommend for a Komodo charter and 5 nights is the sweet spot, so a pre night does not need to shorten your time on board.

Quick checklist for the day you board

  • Confirm your boarding time and meeting point with our Labuan Bajo team
  • Pack soft bags that store easily in cabins
  • Carry cash for small purchases and gratuities, as ATMs in town can run low
  • Keep medication, swimwear and sun protection in your day bag
  • Share your flight number so we can track delays
