Komodo Yacht Charter in the Rainy Season: December to March
Updated 29 October 2026 · Navélia Yacht Charters Indonesia
Short answer
You can charter a yacht in Komodo from December to March, but it is outside the main season: expect afternoon showers, green hills, fewer boats and some days when wind and swell limit the more exposed sites. Komodo is best from April to November. If your dates are fixed in December to March and sea conditions matter to you, Raja Ampat, which is best from October to April, is usually the stronger choice.
What is the weather actually like?
The rainy season in Komodo rarely means rain all day. More often you get bright mornings, a heavy shower in the afternoon or evening, and humid air. The brown savannah hills turn green, which many photographers love. The trade off is that wind and swell are less predictable, so captains sometimes swap an exposed anchorage or dive site for a sheltered one.
Underwater, visibility can drop at some sites after heavy rain, while plankton rich water can still bring manta rays. Hiking is hotter and more humid, so early mornings work best for Padar.
What changes on a rainy season charter?
- Routes are planned day by day around the weather rather than fixed in advance
- Some crossings and outer dive sites may be skipped if conditions are rough
- Fewer yachts and day boats mean quieter anchorages and viewpoints
- Some yachts relocate or go into maintenance, so the choice of boats can be smaller
- Shorter charters of 3 to 4 nights are often easier to plan than long routes
Is it cheaper?
Pricing depends on each owner. Our private Komodo charters start from US$1,900 per night for the whole yacht on a small classic phinisi and US$2,490 on Splendour for 8 guests, and those base rates apply across the year unless an owner offers a seasonal rate. Ask us for current quotes on your dates rather than assuming a discount. Park fees of roughly US$50 to 120 per guest for 3 to 4 nights still apply.
Komodo or Raja Ampat between December and March?
The two regions have opposite seasons, which is why we operate both. Komodo departs Labuan Bajo and is best from April to November. Raja Ampat departs Sorong and is best from October to April. Each charter stays in one region; we do not sail between them. For Christmas, New Year or February trips where calm seas are a priority, Raja Ampat is generally the better pick, with yachts from US$4,450 per night.
| Komodo | Raja Ampat | |
|---|---|---|
| Best months | April to November | October to April |
| Departure | Labuan Bajo | Sorong |
| December to March | Off season, variable seas | In season |
| Lowest yacht price | US$1,900 per night | US$4,450 per night |
Who should still choose Komodo in the wet season?
Komodo from December to March suits flexible travellers who mainly want the Komodo dragons, green landscapes and fewer crowds, and who are happy for the captain to reshape the route day by day. It suits less well anyone with a fixed must see list, nervous sailors, or groups booking a long 7 night route. Three to 4 nights, a sturdy and larger yacht, and a flexible plan give the best results.

Questions
Is January a good month for a Komodo yacht charter?
It is possible but outside the main season. Expect showers and variable seas. Raja Ampat is usually better in January.
Does it rain all day in Komodo in the wet season?
Usually not. Typical days have sunny spells with heavy showers, often in the afternoon or evening.
Are yachts cheaper in Komodo in the rainy season?
It depends on the owner. Some rates stay the same all year, so ask for a quote on your exact dates.

Not on one charter. Each charter stays in one region, so you would book two separate charters and fly between them.
