Komodo Yacht Charter: 3 Nights or 5 Nights?
Updated 29 October 2026 · Navélia Yacht Charters Indonesia
Short answer
Three nights is the minimum we recommend in Komodo and covers the highlights: Padar, the Komodo dragons, Pink Beach and a manta site, at a fairly brisk pace. Five nights is the sweet spot, adding quieter anchorages, more snorkelling and diving, and time to rest. Seven nights lets you continue to Moyo and the Sumbawa coast.
What you see in each length
| Length | Typical highlights | Pace |
|---|---|---|
| 3 nights | Padar, Komodo dragons on Rinca or Komodo, Pink Beach, manta point, Kalong sunset | Busy, early starts |
| 5 nights | All of the above plus quieter northern and southern sites, extra snorkel and dive stops, beach afternoons | Relaxed |
| 7 nights | Komodo plus Moyo and the Sumbawa coast | Expedition feel |
Why 5 nights is the sweet spot
The first and last days of any charter include boarding and disembarking in Labuan Bajo, so a 3 night trip has only two full days at sea. That is enough to see the famous sites, but you will often be visiting them at the same time as other boats. With 5 nights, the captain can reach Padar at sunrise, spend a morning at a reef with no one else around, and include an afternoon with nothing planned. Divers also benefit, because dive sites in Komodo depend on tides and currents, and more days mean better timing.
Families with children also find 5 nights easier. Shorter sailing legs and long beach afternoons keep everyone happy, and there is time to repeat a favourite snorkel spot.
Cost comparison on real yachts
Prices are for the whole yacht, including crew, meals and fuel for the standard route.
Remember that extras scale with length too. Park fees, diving and drinks rise slightly on a longer trip, and the crew gratuity is usually about 10% of the charter fee, so a 5 night trip on Teman would mean a tip of around US$2,125.
| Yacht | Guests | 3 nights | 5 nights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Splendour | 8 | US$7,470 | US$12,450 |
| Teman | 12 | US$12,750 | US$21,250 |
| Kayra | 8 | US$21,000 | US$35,000 |
| Celestia | 14 | US$40,500 | US$67,500 |
Which should you choose?
- Choose 3 nights if you have limited holiday time or are combining Komodo with Bali
- Choose 5 nights if this is your main trip, you are travelling with children, or anyone dives
- Choose 7 nights if you want Moyo and Sumbawa, on yachts that sail there such as Augustine or Jakare
- Add park fees of roughly US$50 to 120 per guest for 3 to 4 nights, more for divers
Season and timing
Whichever length you choose, sail between April and November, with the peak from May to October. In July and August the busiest sites see the most boats, and the park applies daily visitor quotas at some of them, which is another reason the extra flexibility of 5 nights pays off. Most charters start and end in Labuan Bajo, about 1 hour 15 minutes by air from Bali.
