Vegetarian and Dietary Needs on an Indonesian Yacht Charter
Updated 29 October 2026 · Navélia Yacht Charters Indonesia
Short answer
Yes, private yachts in Indonesia cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, halal, dairy free and allergy needs, because meals are cooked on board for your group only. Tell us at least two to three weeks before the charter so the chef can provision in Labuan Bajo or Sorong, where some speciality products are limited. Meals are included in the charter price.
How catering works on a private charter
On a private yacht the chef cooks only for your group, so the menu is built around you rather than a set buffet. Before the trip we send a preference form that covers diets, allergies, favourite dishes and drinks. The chef then plans a menu and buys fresh produce and fish before departure.
Indonesian cuisine is naturally friendly to many diets: tempeh, tofu, vegetable curries, sambals, rice and fresh tropical fruit are staples, so vegetarians and vegans eat very well.
Fresh fish is bought locally, so pescatarians are spoilt for choice, and the chef can grill your catch if you fish from the tender. Breakfasts usually include fruit, eggs, pancakes and Indonesian dishes such as nasi goreng, and most yachts happily adapt every meal.
What to tell us, and when
- Allergies, especially nuts, shellfish and gluten, with how severe they are
- Vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, halal or kosher style preferences
- Children's food preferences and any baby food you plan to bring
- Special products you rely on, such as gluten free pasta or plant milk, which you may need to bring
- Celebrations, such as a birthday cake on a specific evening
Limits worth knowing
Labuan Bajo and Sorong are small towns, so speciality brands can be hard to find. For strict medical diets, bring key items in your luggage. For severe allergies, bring your own medication, because the nearest clinic can be hours away by boat. The crew will keep allergens separate, but tell us clearly so the chef can plan safely.
Is it extra?
Meals are included in every charter, alongside crew and fuel for the standard route. Special diets normally do not cost more. Alcohol is extra, and some guests bring wine or spirits by arrangement with the yacht. Park fees, diving and the crew gratuity of about 10% of the charter fee are also separate.
Drinks and special occasions
Soft drinks, water, tea and coffee are normally provided, while alcohol is charged separately or brought by arrangement. If you prefer specific wines, plant milks or coffee, tell us in advance so the yacht can stock them in Labuan Bajo or Sorong. The chef can also plan a celebration dinner, a beach barbecue or a cooking class featuring Indonesian dishes. Our team replies within 10 minutes on WhatsApp if you want to adjust the menu before departure.
