In practice, no. Local regulations, permits and the character of the boats make crewed charters the only viable option.

Q: Do I need to feed or accommodate the crew?

No. Crew accommodation, meals and salaries are included in the yacht rate.

Q: How much do I tip the crew?

Customary is 5 – 15% of the yacht fee, paid to the captain in cash or transfer at trip end. It is discretionary and reflects service.

Q: Can I request a specific chef?

On some premium yachts, yes — a freelance or celebrity chef can be brought aboard at cost. We coordinate this via the operator.

Q: Will the crew respect our privacy?

Yes — this is a core part of Indonesian yacht hospitality. Crew are trained to be present when needed and invisible otherwise.

Why every Indonesia charter is crewed

Indonesian waters demand local knowledge: currents in the Komodo passages, tides in Raja Ampat, permit boundaries in Wayag and Misool. Add park permit paperwork and the traditional-build nature of most yachts, and full crew is the norm rather than an upgrade. Bareboat charter as understood in the Caribbean or Med is not a practical option here.

Language and hospitality
